There are local markets in neighbouring towns and villages – Eauze on a Thursday is specially good, but Barbotan (Wednesday), Rocquefort (Saturday) and Villeneuve (Wednesday) all have their attractions.  

There’s a good golf course about 20 minutes away at St Avit just outside Mont de Marsan; canoes to rent in Roquefort; and horse-riding available locally. 

Very close to La Bastide, in the road to Barbotan and Eauze, is Notre Dame des Cyclistes, a small church dedicated to cycling, hung with the shirts of hundreds of Tour de France winners. 

There are many good cycling routes around the village, and an old railway line turned into a footpath/cycle way, shaded by trees where deer often graze.
